„Feathermagnetik is a majestic micro/macrocosm. – A shapeshifter who’s darkness is strewn
with glowing lights.“

With special regard to our interdisciplinary approach, we’re delighted to announce our next
UM:LAUT adventure with Icelandic composer and audio-visual artist Kira Kira. As a founding member of Kitchen Motors, a label and collective based on experiments in electronic music and arts, she continually breaks boundaries between forms and genres through a repertoire that includes work for theatre, film, dance and art installations – as well as playful multi-disciplinary productions. We are very happy that Kira Kira presents her third album „Feathermagnetik“, her first release with Morr Music’s sublabel „Sound Of A Handshake“, at Radialsystem in the series of UM:LAUT on 8 July. For the new record she has collaborated with a wild array of amazing musicians – among them Finnish percussion wizard and producer Samuli Kosminen and trumpeter Eiríkur Orri Ólafsson of the Icelandic band múm, bassist Borgar Magnason, an active force with the Bedroom Community label, as well as Finnish violin wonder Pekka Kuusisto – thereby creating fragile formations of music and playful sound collages between electronica, glitch and experimental.

For the record release concert at Radialsystem, Kira Kira is joined by Samuli Kosminen on custom-made percussion, trumpeter Eiríkur Orri Ólafsson and special guest Greg Cohen playing the double-bass – as well as by the Icelandic filmmaker Sara Gunnarsdóttir who provides the underlying visuals. Beforehand, sound explorer Samuli Kosminen, who is a member of the great band múm and has collaborated with Hauschka and Kronos Quartet, plays one of his rare special treat solo sets. We’re excited!

Beforehand we celebrate the German film premiere of Kira Kira’s first feature film as director and screenwriter „Grandma Lo-Fi: The Basement Tapes of Sigrídur Níelsdóttir“. The movie has recently been invited to New York’s Museum of Modern Art and is currently screened at numerous festivals world-wide. And to complete our lovely gathering we’ll have barbecue and drinks at the beautiful river terrace of Radialsystem.
